Prey for the Gods Is The Shadow of the Colossus Sequel We Always Wanted

Been waiting years for The Last Guardian? This might ease the pain.

Shadow of the Colossus is widely considered one of the masterpieces of the PS2. Seen as more art than game, it featured simple but challenging gameplay, fantastic art design, and a melancholy story that crept into your skin as you played. Understandably, many have been anticipating the release of the next Team ICO game, The Last Guardian… but after a few years it’s been hard to keep up the same zeal.

Well, fear not. California based developer No Matter has announced a new game titled Prey For The Gods, and it looks like the successor to Shadow of the Colossus we always wanted in our heart of hearts. Check out the trailer:

So, what is Prey For the Gods?

Well, aside from what we can gleam from the trailer, there official description reads,

“Prey for the Gods is a brutal journey set on a desolate frozen island, where your only chance of survival is to destroy the very gods you believe in.”

So, yeah. Very much cut from the same cloth as Shadow of the Colossus.

Is the game just boss fights like Colossus?

We’re not entirely sure. We definitely saw wolves running across the snow… so it’s possible you may have to fight regular animals roaming around. We’re willing to bet, however, that the boss fights will be the central focus of the game. The secondary focus will most likely be traversing the snowy island those bosses inhabit.

What else is worth noting?

There seems to be many ruins in the game, which is another nod to Shadow of the Colossus. You also seem to be playing a female character who has a bow and arrow. We weren’t able to spot a sword, however.

The island also seems to be an open world, which will be fantastic if the level design lives up to its potential. The snow looks great, definitely invoking the feeling of Uncharted 2: Among Thieves.

Will there be a horse?

Thus far, we haven’t seen one. Though the snow drenched terrain seems like it wouldn’t be best suited for a horse.

When will the game come out?

Unknown at this point.

What platforms is it for?

The official site doesn’t say, but Kotaku is claiming it is for PC at present.
