Sounds Great: Mary Halvorson is God

We’ve spoken of jazz guitarist Mary Halvorson before in these hallowed pages – I named her 2016 record with her octet, Away With You, the 7th best record of 2016. Avant garde jazz guitar isn’t necessarily everyone’s cup of tea, I understand that, but the closest thing we have to a guitar god these days is Ms Halvorson, who can shred, groove, bounce, play, and jive with the best of them. I’d put her chops against crusty old Clapton any day. Code Girl, her latest release, is a massive masterpiece which is receiving heaps of praise from everyone that matters and for good reason.
