Star Wars: The Force Awakens – Is Kylo Ren Hunting Rey On Jakku?

It’s all starting to make sense now.

*POSSIBLE SPOILERS FOR STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS BELOW*

For a while now, we’ve been piecing together the puzzle that is Star Wars: The Force Awakens. One major part of the narrative (and backstory) is Daisy Ridley’s Rey, a Jakku scavenger (presumably) turned Resistance fighter. We’ve had many theories about her, most of which fit together pretty well. And, if you do try to fit them together another piece of the movie’s puzzle starts to become clear.

Alright, what are your theories about Rey?

First of all, we know that Rey is Force sensitive. That leads us to believe that she’s most likely the daughter of either Luke or Leia. Given the big romantic couple of the original trilogy was Han and Leia, we’re also willing to bet Rey is their child rather than the product of Luke and some woman we’ll never know.

We also believe that The Force Awakens may take a page from the old expanded universe, in that Rey will have a twin brother the same way Han and Leia gave birth to the twins Jaina and Jacen Solo. We also believe that brother was captured at an early age by the Empire/First Order and trained as one of the Knights of Ren. Worried the same thing would happen to her daughter, Leia hid Rey on Jakku the same way Obi-Wan hid Anakin’s twins.

So, in all the trailers we’ve been seeing lots of shots of a First Order squad led by Kylo Ren torching a village in what seems to be a desert area. It’s generally accepted that Finn is one of the stormtroopers doing the torching, but has a change of heart that gets him into trouble.

Now, we do believe that the main reason Kylo Ren is on Jakku is that he’s hunting Poe Dameron, whose droid BB-8 has the location of Starkiller base.

But… if our theories are true and Rey is Kylo Ren’s sister… isn’t it a little convenient they happen to be on the same planet like that? Don’t get us wrong, it’s also convenient Vader, Leia, and Luke were all in the same vicinity at the start of A New Hope…

… but what if Kylo Ren is looking for Rey on Jakku? We still don’t know what happens to her going into Episode VIII, which makes us wonder if she’s going to go to the dark side. If Kylo Ren knows about his sister, he might make an Empire level reveal to her at the end of the film, which could make her question her allegiances.

If that’s true, does it mean Kylo Ren kidnaps and/or recruits her into the Knights of Ren?

Again, this is all just speculation, but we’re starting to wonder if there’s a kernel of truth to all this.
