Say what you will about Michael Bay’s reboot of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles — which received mostly negative reviews — it paved the way for a sequel which looks to be a return to the series’ roots.
If you haven’t heard, yes, they are currently filming the sequel to 2014’s live-action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
This time around, baddies Bebop and Rocksteady are making an appearance — you’ll likely remember them from the animated series. Fan favorite Casey Jones is also making a return, right along with Baxter Stockman.
Stephen Amell (CW’s Arrow) will be playing Casey Jones, the vigilante character who dons a hockey mask and helps the Ninja Turtles fight crime. I’d imagine the version of the character we’ll see in the next film will be gritty, violent and hot heavy.
Why Do You Say That?
Michael Bay unveiled Casey Jones’ look in the upcoming film, by teasing an image of Amell in the infamous hockey mask. Take a look for yourself.
Great, but How Will the Character Be Portrayed?
We have a pretty good idea of how Stephen Amell will portray Casey Jones. Some resourceful fans caught video of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 cast performing on set.
In the first video we see April O’Neil (Megan Fox) running away from a Foot Clan member before Casey Jones steps out of the shadows to lend a hand. After the hockey-mask-wearing vigilante takes out the baddie, the Ninja Turtles appear and startle him. Naturally, he tries to attack them — they are giant, weapon-wielding turtles, after all — only to be stopped by O’Neil.
Don’t believe me? Take a look:
Another video shows the motion-capture actors who play the Ninja Turtles roughhousing. In the background we can see Amell — in his Casey Jones attire — and Fox watching it all play out. Fox even laughs openly at the plight of Raphael’s actor, who takes a weapon or two to the shin.
I used to be a crime-fighting, mutant turtle like you — until I took a nunchaku to the knee. Sorry, I had to.
Anyway, there’s nothing surprising about the Casey Jones costume. Although, that hockey-mask is bonified badass. What do you think?
