We’re a long way off from Season 2 of Daredevil. That’s the downside to consuming an entire series in one go, it’s over way too quickly. I suppose you could always make another pass through the first Season, but I digress.
It looks like Punisher is going to make an appearance in Season 2, which makes a lot of sense considering Matt Murdock — or Daredevil — is located in Hell’s Kitchen. We saw this coming, as Season 1 had a few easter eggs related to the Punisher and the cast has mentioned they want the character to appear.
Surprise or not, it’s still exciting!
So, Who’s Going to Play Frank Castle?
A little actor known as Jon Bernthal will be taking on the role of Frank Castle. You might remember him as Shane from The Walking Dead, but he also had appearances in the more recent films Wolf of Wall Street and Fury.
According to Jeph Loeb, Marvel’s Head of Television, Bernthal will bring “an unmatched intensity” to the project.
“Jon Bernthal brings an unmatched intensity to every role he takes on, with a potent blend of power, motivation and vulnerability that will connect with audiences. Castle’s appearance will bring dramatic changes to the world of Matt Murdock and nothing will be the same.”
As we know from Season 1, Murdock is dark but he’s no killer. You can’t say the same of Frank Castle who’s more willing to eliminate his enemies in gruesome — and sometimes torturous — ways. You can bet there will be some tension between the two characters in Season 2.
In the comics, Castle and Murdock have had something of a strange rivalry; they never actually affront one another as direct enemies. It’s likely the show will take the same route, but we don’t know for sure yet. If you take a peek at the Season 2 logo for Daredevil, you’ll notice it’s riddled with bullet holes. Does this signify that Castle will pose as the significant opposition this season?
What do you think?
After Season 2 of Daredevil is over, will we see Bernthal take the reigns in a spinoff series as Frank Castle? I hope so. I really, really do.
