It took way longer than it should have, but Marvel has finally confirmed that Agent Carter will be returning for a second season.
The new season was announced among a flurry of other ABC renewals, including Castle and Once Upon a Time. While it’s certainly a relief, it should be no surprise to fans. Out of the two Marvel series on ABC, Agent Carter is generally considered to have been way more reliably strong throughout, and any opportunity to bring Hayley Atwell back is a good plan in my book.
What do we know about Season 2?
Not a whole lot, although assuming it’s a direct sequel to the first series (and the One-Shot short film), it will likely deal with Peggy Carter’s role in the formation of SHIELD. That would make it a nice little lead-in to Agents of SHIELD itself, and give us another excuse to pair Atwell with Dominic Cooper’s Howard Stark again.
What other Marvel TV projects are in the works? In addition to a second season of Agent Carter and a third season of Agents of SHIELD, Marvel is also reportedly cooking up an Agents of SHIELD spin-off starring Mockingbird and Lance Hunter, and an additional unknown ABC series (rumored to be featuring Kamala Khan).
On the Netflix side of things, Daredevil will be getting a second season, although before that happens, we’ll be getting three more series (AKA Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist), as well as a crossover miniseries event called The Defenders. All-in-all, that’s a ton of Marvel on TV. I hope you’re a fan of their “it’s all connected” mantra (I sure as hell am).
