Marvel’s official synopsis for Civil War is:

Captain America: Civil War picks up where Avengers: Age of Ultron left off, as Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) leads the new team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. After another international incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability and a governing body to determine when to enlist the services of the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers while they try to protect the world from a new and nefarious villain. Starring Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Paul Bettany, Jeremy Renner, Don Cheadle, Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Rudd, Chadwick Boseman, Emily VanCamp, Daniel Brühl, Frank Grillo, William Hurt, and Martin Freeman, Captain America: Civil War is set for release on May 6, 2016.

You’re probably wondering what the relation of this description is to Ant-Man. It offers insight as to why Paul Rudd might be on the Civil War set, and why his character — Ant-Man — will be seen in the movie.

The Avengers are “fractured” which causes a rift in the group and results in a civil war — as the name implies. The big argument? In the Civil War comics, the government mandates a registration system for superheroes which would require them to reveal their secret identities. Some of the team supports the new legislation while others are against it and this is what causes the “fracture” in the group. It’s likely the movie’s plot will follow a similar storyline.

This means that our beloved heroes are going to have to make a stand and choose a side. It also means that both sides will be recruiting new players to their cause. We’ll see the return of characters like Falcon, Scarlet Witch, Vision, Black Widow, Hawkeye and many more. However, we’ll also see some new players such as Ant-Man, Spider-Man, Black Panther, and Winter Soldier.

If you’d like to know what characters are actually confirmed for Civil War, we put together a list.

For now, we’ll just have to accept the fact that Ant-Man is joining the rest of the crew for some role — minor or major we have yet to see.
