X-Men: Apocalypse May Feature Three Giant X-Cameos

Another big Marvel rumor has dropped, this time regarding Fox’s rapidly expanding X-Men movie universe.

According to Latino-Review’s Umberto Gonzalez (who is on quite a roll today), the next installment in the series will feature a ton of connective tissue with the rest of the series, including three big cameos.

So what’s new with X-Men: Apocalypse?

Well according to this rumor Apocalypse will begin shooting in Montreal next month, and will not only feature that rumored cameo by Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine, but also Halle Berry’s Storm and Channing Tatum’s Gambit!

That’s huge if true, and also super confusing. Tatum’s Gambit makes sense, since it will set up audiences up for the standalone movie next year, but Storm?

From what we know so far, Apocalypse will follow the First Class timeline, and up until now, there had been no indication that any of “original trilogy” characters would be showing up. After all, the only reason they were present in Days of Future Past was because of the time traveling shenanigans of that story.

I’m really failing to come up with a logical way that Halle Berry’s storm could be in this movie. At 48 years old, it would be a stretch to have her play a younger version of her character, so unless there are some more weird time traveling mechanics going on, that really only leaves some fringe possibilities to consider.

I could potentially see some kind of bookend sequence with an older Storm. Alternatively, what if she plays Storm’s mother? Or an ancestor of the character in a flashback? That could be interesting, especially with the ancient Egypt thing that post-credits stinger scene had going on.

What is this movie about anyways?

All we know right now is that it is a sequel to Days of Future Past, it will star the First Class versions of the characters, and it will feature the iconic X-Men villain Apocalypse.

In the comics, Apocalypse is a ridiculously powerful mutant who conquers the entire world, prompting a guy named Cable to travel back in time to stop him in the past. I doubt this movie will do another time travel story so soon after the first one, but expect to see a villain worthy of the entire X-Men team coming together to stop him.

When will we be seeing it?

X-Men: Apocalypse is currently scheduled to be released on May 26, 2016. It will be joined that year by Gambit starring Channing Tatum.
