Hey there music lover! You like new stuff? Great! You’ve stumbled into the perfect corner of the internet.  Each week all sorts of audiolicious goodies are unleashed onto the masses and this is where they come to be judged. I’ll tell ya what’s good, what’s bad, and what’s a waste of your precious time. So strap on your headphones and let’s take a ride!
The Big News

Okay, so as we all know by now, Prince died last week. And just like when Bowie died earlier this year, everyone is still in an extended state of mourning for the Great One. I’ve listened to “Purple Rain” about a million times like everyone else, etc. Perfect timing for a new Drake album? Maybe cheer everyone up a bit, get some butts shakin’ on the dance floor? Sure! I mean, I’m not going to listen to it, but you guys have fun!

Indie Go ‘Round

Britta Phillips, of Luna, unveils her debut solo set, Luck or Magic.

There’s a buzz abut Michigan’s Pity Sex. Screaming Guitars explains it thusly: ”Their lyricism may rival some of the best love poetry you churned out as a teen, but this is in many ways a compliment, their harmonizing vocals an innocent touch melting into otherwise grinding guitars, nodding to the 90s shoegaze they take their sound from as much as lost loves of yesteryear.”

Canada’s Plants and Animals return with their fourth effort Waltzed in from the Rumbling. Sayeth Pitchfork: “Each instrument on Waltzed is so exactly in tune and at the optimum volume and placement in the speaker that it feels like each note it tangible.”

Solo Suckers

Dope rapper and American hero Aesop Rock becomes The Impossible Kid on his seventh release.

English auteur Katy B collaborated with all sorts of people (like Major Lazer) on her junior release, Honey.

The Electric Warlock Acid Witch Satanic Orgy Celebration Dispenser is “most definitely a Rob Zombie trademark album with his unique stamp smashed all over the album like a trigger happy librarian”, according to The Metal Hobbit

Legendary Legends

Brian Eno, the most legendary of legends, returns with The Ship, his first solo effort since 2012. It’s some sort of weird ambient rumination on the Titanic, World War I, and other weird stuff. “Captivating and easy,” is how Rolling Stone describes it.

RIP

This is the part where we say goodbye to those who’ve played their last solo. Rock on and rest in peace, brothers and sisters.

Congolese singer Papa Wemba.

R&B singer Billy Paul.

My Recommendation

King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard. Need I say more?

Next Week!!

Tune in next week, same new music time, same new music channel, for new stuff from: Death Grips!!
