Pre-orders are now live for Battlefront, our first AAA video game entry in the new Star Wars canon (although it won’t be the first game overall).
If you’ve been chomping at the bit waiting to get your hands on the game, pre-orders have now gone live on Amazon on the PC, Xbox One, and PS4. Additionally, the game’s cover art has been revealed, along with details on the “Deluxe Edition.”
What do I get for pre-ordering the game?
All pre-orders of Battlefront (Amazon and otherwise) will give players early access to the free Battle of Jakku DLC. This map will be one of our first peeks at a post-Return of the Jedi universe, marking a key conflict between the New Republic and Imperial holdouts on that desert planet from the Force Awakens trailers.
The DLC will be available to the entire playerbase on December 8, but those who pre-ordered the game will get it a week early on December 1.
What does the Deluxe Edition come with?
The Deluxe Edition is pretty strange to be honest. It’s not like a Collector’s Edition that comes with a bunch of random knick-knacks and a cloth map. Instead, it’s a $10 upgrade to the base game that adds in 5 in-game items (three weapons, and two emotes):
- Made famous by Han Solo, the DL-44 is the blaster of choice for scoundrels across the universe.
- Inflict more damage on enemy vehicles with the Ion Grenade.
- The Ion Torpedo locks on to and delivers extra damage to your opponents’ vehicles.
- Get electrified with the Ion Shock emote, available exclusively in the Deluxe Edition.
- Celebrate your win in style and pump your fist in the air with the exclusive Victory emote.
Worth it? That’s tough to say. In any case, the Deluxe Edition comes with variant cover art, so that’s something I suppose:
Weirdly enough though, the Deluxe Edition is not available on the PC (although you can pre-order the standard copy on Amazon).
When is the game out?
Star Wars: Battlefront will be released on November 17, 2015, while the Battle of Jakku DLC is out on December 8 (and December 1 for pre-order customers).
Once again, here is that pre-order link if you’d like to reserve your copy now.
