DICE did a fantastic job with these character models.
If you played the Star Wars: Battlefront Beta, you know that not only is the game a graphical tour de force, but Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader in particular look absolutely spectacular. As we reported before, the source code was datamined, revealing not only a ton of information about the game but also the hero units and how they played.
Well, maybe EA and DICE saw the leak and decided to jump ahead of it, but they’ve released the character models for the unseen hero units: Han Solo, Princess Leia, and Emperor Palpatine. Let’s check them out:
Here’s Princess Leia:
You’ll notice she’s wearing her combat ready Hoth gear, which is a choice we applaud whole heartedly. Too often we see Leia portrayed with her white gown and hair buns from A New Hope or her slave girl outfit from Return of the Jedi. Battlefront is a combat game and Leia’s character model should reflect that. Putting her in her Hoth or Endor commando gear is the right way to go.
Here’s Han Solo:
Another great choice. Han’s iconic look may be the original black vest and white shirt from A New Hope, but we were always partial to his blue jacket and asymmetrical shirt from The Empire Strikes Back, it may seem a little low down and dirty, but it definitely enhances the charming rogue feel of the character. Note the stray, unkempt hairs on his head and the textures for the jacket. Really detailed stuff.
Here’s the Emperor:
They really captured the inherent creepiness of the character, not to mention his very elaborate wrinkles. We’re absolutely floored by this model, especially how DICE nailed the fabric of his cloak.
Overall, it’s some great work. We can’t wait to see them in action… especially the Emperor’s Force lightning.
