Marvel Rumor: Is Asa Butterfield Our New Spider-Man?

It’s been a long road to get here, but it seems Marvel has whittled down its short list of five potential Spider-Mans into one: Asa Butterfield.

How do we know?

Well, we don’t know for certain but Latino Review is reporting the scoop. They’ve been correct on Marvel news more often than not, as you may remember they called that Joss Whedon would direct The Avengers months before it was official.

Asa’s frontrunner status been rumored for a while now, so it’s not a surprise to hear he’s entered final negotiations for the role. He’s also 18, which makes him just young enough for the Spider-Man they’re going for while being old enough to avoid union rules that restrict the working hours for younger actors.

Where have I seen him?

Asa’s biggest roles were the leads in Ender’s Game and Hugo, as both titular characters.

When will Spider-Man be making his first appearance in the MCU?

Next year’s Captain America: Civil War, which has already begun principle photography… so we can expect to hear the casting announcement soon if they want Asa in the film. It’s not hard imagine each party’s lawyers are working around the clock. After Civil War, Spider-Man will have his own movie in 2017. We don’t know who will write and direct the 2017 film, but there are a number of rumors flying around.
